"Obeyed the voice of the LORD their God"

Text: Haggai 1:12

OBEDIENCE FINALLY

There was hardly any choice but to return to the LORD their God. To continue to ignore God and His commandment to rebuild the Temple was not only unwise and hazardous!

“Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel,
and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest,
with all the remnant of the people,
obeyed the voice of the LORD their God…”
Haggai 1:12

1. “Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel”

a) He was the governor of the land.
b) He came from the royal line of David.
c) He would represent the leadership.

2. “And Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest”

a) He was the high priest.
b) He would represent:
i) The priests
ii) The Levites
iii) The Nethinim (they had devoted themselves to serving in the Temple)

3. “With all the remnant of the people”

a) This would be a reference to all the returnees.
b) They were commonly called “the remnant”.
i) They survived the war (Babylonian invasion).
ii) They had returned to Judah.
c) They were willing to listen to:
i) Zerubbabel
In civil matters.
ii) Joshua

In religious and spiritual matters.

4. “Obeyed the voice of the LORD their God”

a) Obedience is a key element that God desired from His people.
b) This would reflect their acceptance of the Lordship of God.
c) This would also reflect faith in the LORD.
