"I am with you"

Text: Haggai 1:13

THE ASSURANCE OF THE LORD

The fear of the LORD is a delicate thing. It can be a very positive and powerful anchor of faith and life. It can also have a negative aspect.

“Then Haggai, the LORD’s messenger,
spoke the LORD’s message to the people, saying,
‘I am with you, says the LORD.'”
Haggai 1:13

1. “Then Haggai, the LORD’S messenger”

a) Haggai was mentioned as a prophet of the LORD a few times (Haggai 1:1, 3, 12).
b) A vital role of the prophet of the LORD.
i) He is a servant of God.
ii) He is the messenger of the LORD.
iii) He is God’s spokesman.

2. “Spoke the LORD’s message to the people, saying”

a) His task was very clear.
b) He had a message from the LORD.
c) His task was to proclaim that word.

3. The Messages received thus far

a) To help the people know that God was among them and watching over them.
b) What God observed:
i) Neglect of the temple.
ii) Chasing after personal wealth.
c) What God did:
i) Chastening of the people.
ii) Drought was sent.
iii) Blessings were withheld.
d) The people began to respond appropriately.
i) They had returned to God.
ii) They were willing to obey Him.

4. “‘I am with you, says the LORD'”

This was needed assurance. The LORD had not given up on His people. His presence would bring blessing!
