Day 15

"Then the LORD answered me"

Text: Habakkuk 2:2

A SPECIAL PRIVILEGE OF THE PROPHET

There were many special privileges of being a prophet of the Lord. One of them is to have direct answers from the Lord God.

“Then the LORD answered me and said:
‘Write the vision
And make it plain on tablets,
That he may run who reads it.'”
Habakkuk 2:2

1. “Then the LORD answered me and said”

a) The questions Habakkuk raised were difficult ones.
b) But the Lord had answers to all questions and observations that may be made.
c) His answers however, are not easy to fathom.
d) They must be carefully pondered over and fathomed correctly.

2. “Vision”

a) One of the ways in which God communicated was to use “visions”.
b) He would give graphic pictures to Habakkuk to see and meditate upon.
c) He would have to fathom what God was saying in these prophetic visions.

3. “Write the vision and make it plain on tablets”

a) This is the responsibility of the prophet.
b) He is to communicate God’s message to His people.
c) Habakkuk’s tasks were the following:
i) To write the meaning of the vision.
ii) Wisdom and understanding would be needed.
iii) The word of God would have to be made “plain”.
iv) Skill would be needed to explain the Word of God so that the message may become “plain”.

4. “That he may run who reads it”

a) Habakkuk must write effectively on whatever means of communication may be available (in this instance “tablets”).
b) His teaching must make an impact on the reader.
c) He will understand that the vision-message Habakkuk preaches is indeed from God.
d) The word “run” suggests an effective and appropriate response.
e) The reader knows he must respond to the message of the Lord after he has read the message.
