"Let Us have no more of all your abominations"

Text: Ezekiel 44:6

NO MORE ABOMINATIONS

The history of the Tabernacle was unfortunately rather short-lived. In the years when Moses led Israel there was a special regard for the Tabernacle. That regard for the Temple was lost with the passing of time.

The history of the Temple suffered the same tragedy. The Lord’s glory came upon the Temple to signify His blessing, among other things. But with the passing of time, the same problems arose. The Temple became defiled!

The Lord gave a special word to Ezekiel to proclaim to the house of Israel. The past must not be repeated!

“Now say to the rebellious, to the house of Israel,
‘Thus says the Lord God:
‘O house of Israel,
let Us have no more of all your abominations.
When you brought in foreigners,
uncircumcised in heart and uncircumcised in flesh,
to be in My sanctuary to defile it—My house—
and when you offered My food, the fat and the blood,
then they broke My covenant because of all your abominations.
And you have not kept charge of My holy things,
but you have set others to keep charge of My sanctuary for you.”
Thus says the Lord God:
‘No foreigner, uncircumcised in heart or uncircumcised in flesh,
shall enter My sanctuary,
including any foreigner who is among the children of Israel.'”
Ezekiel 44:6-9

1. Israel was rebellious.

a) It refused to give heed to God’s commandments.

b) It chose to do what was abominable in the sight of God.

c) God commands the house of Israel not to allow any kind of abominations in the 3rd Temple.

2. What were some of the abominations?

a) They allowed the following into the Temple:

i) The foreigners.

ii) The uncircumcised physically and spiritually.

iii) Their worship of God was a defiled one.

b) People serving in the Temple.

i) It should have been priests.

ii) The priests hired people to do their work.

iii) The ordinances of the Temple were severely violated.

iv) People who were non-believers were entering into the sanctuary.

These activities were abominations in the sight of the Lord! They must never be repeated in the 3rd Temple.
