"Because My flock became a prey"

Text: Ezekiel 34:8

A STERN WORD TO THE SHEPHERDS

The Lord issued a strong and stern word to the shepherds of Israel. This was a word that should not be ignored!

“Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord:
‘As I live,’ says the Lord God,
‘surely because My flock became a prey,
and My flock became food for every beast of the field,
because there was no shepherd,
nor did My shepherds search for My flock,
but the shepherds fed themselves
and did not feed My flock.'”
Ezekiel 34:7-8

1. A direct word to the shepherds was given.

a) The shepherds were addressed expressly.

b) This particular word was meant for them specifically.

c) It was not a word of commendation.

d) It was a strong word of admonition.

2. “As I live”

a) This was akin to an oath from the Lord.

b) This underscores the serious tone of this word from God.

3. The Lord was going to hold the shepherds accountable for their actions.

c) The Lord called Israel “My flock”.

4. The reasons given by God for this word of admonition:

a) Because God’s flock became a prey.

b) Because God’s flock became food for all the wild beasts.

c) Because the shepherds did not care for His flock.

God held these shepherds fully accountable for their failure to look after His flock!
