"Blessed be Abram of God Most High (El Elyon), Possessor of heaven and earth." Genesis 14:19

Text: Exodus 6 : 4

THE ABRAHAMIC COVENANT REMEMBERED

When God gives a word, we can be sure He would keep it. When God commits Himself by giving a Covenant, we can be doubly sure that He would always honour His promise! To trust in the Lord as One who keeps His covenant-promise was a lesson that both Moses and the children of Israel needed to learn!

“I have also established My covenant with them,
to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage,
in which they were strangers.”
EXODUS 6:4

The children of Israel may have had trouble appreciating the significance of the Covenant that God gave to their patriarchs, but the fact remains that the Lord did not forget that special pledge He gave to all three of their forefathers.

1. The Covenant was an established one

This was a truth that both Moses and the children of Israel must cling fast to! In the darkest hour of their life, there must be faith in the Lord as One who will not renege on His covenant promise.

2. The Covenant Promise of the Land of Canaan

One of the strong features of the Abrahamic Covenant was the Promise that the land of Canaan would be given to them. He who is Possessor of heaven and earth, He who is Almighty, had both the right and the power to give Canaan to His chosen ones, the children of Israel!

3. The Covenant promise recalled

Let us take time to recall what the Lord said to Abraham concerning the establishment of the Covenant with future generations.

“And I will establish My covenant between Me and you
and your descendants after you in their generations,
for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and
your descendants after you. Also I give to you
and your descendants after you the land in which
you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan,
as an everlasting possession, and I will be their God.”
GENESIS 17:7-8

THE ESTABLISHING OF THE COVENANT WITH MOSES’ GENERATION

This was a most historic moment for Israel. The revelation of the name LORD was most significant. It marked the confirmation of the Abrahamic Covenant! What a thrilling revelation of the name LORD!
