Exodus
Day
Day 86

"Wait on the LORD, and keep His way. And He shall exalt you to inherit the land." Psalm 37:34

Text: Exodus 11 : 1-3

IN CLOSE COMMUNION WITH GOD

Moses kept in close touch with the Lord! That was most necessary. Success in ministry must never go to the head! Keeping close communion with the Lord is vital to both life and ministry! The practice of “waiting upon the Lord” was a spiritual discipline that Moses developed early in ministry.

ONE LAST PLAGUE ENVISIONED

The Lord called Moses to His side and once again explained what he was going to do next.

“And the LORD said to Moses, ‘I will bring one more plague
on Pharaoh and on Egypt. Afterward he will let you go
from here. When he lets you go, he will surely drive you
out of here altogether. Speak now in the hearing of the people,
and let every man ask from his neighbour, and every
woman from her neighbour, articles of silver
and articles of gold.'”
EXODUS 11:1-2

1. “Pharaoh… will let you go”

It was getting more and more difficult to imagine if Pharaoh would ever let the children of Israel go! He had proven himself most obstinate through nine terrible plagues that had ravaged the land of Egypt! Against this background, God assured Moses that Pharaoh would relent this time round!

2. “Let every man ask from his neighbour… articles of silver… of gold”

Silver and gold were good common international currencies in the ancient days. Articles of gold and silver could be melted down and these metals could be re-deployed for other purposes! The children of Israel had slaved for Egypt for four centuries! They deserved some kind of remuneration for all the work they had put in to build Egypt!

THE FAVOUR OF THE LORD

The erstwhile, unknown shepherd, who kept the flocks of his father-in-law for four decades in Midian, was now a household name in Egypt! God had propelled Moses to tremendous prominence in a very short period of time!

“And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of
the Egyptians. Moreover the man Moses was very great
in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh’s servants
and in the sight of the people.”
EXODUS 11:3

It is necessary to acknowledge “the favour of the Lord”. Without His “favour” nothing significant could ever be achieved! The despised children of Israel were now looked upon with great respect if not fear! Moses, who began his ministry with fear and trepidation was now viewed with great awe!
