Exodus

Exodus
Day
Day 79

"Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; On you I wait all the day." Psalm 25:5

Text: Exodus 10 : 3-6

ANOTHER FIRM WORD OF WARNING

Moses and Aaron were by now familiar house-hold names to all in Egypt! They were outstanding servants of the All-powerful God of the Hebrews! Each time they entered into the presence of the Pharaoh, many trembled. What dire threat lay ahead?

“So Moses and Aaron came in to Pharaoh and said to him,
‘Thus says the LORD God of the Hebrews:
‘How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me?
Let My people go, that they may serve Me.
Or else, if you refuse to let My people go, behold, tomorrow
I will bring locusts into your territory. And they shall cover
the face of the earth…
And they shall eat the residue of what is left, which remains
to you from the hail, and they shall eat every tree which grows up
for you out of the field. They shall fill your houses…
And the houses of all the Egyptians-
which neither your fathers nor your fathers’ fathers have seen,
since the day that they were on the earth to this day.”
And he turned and went out from Pharaoh.”
EXODUS 10:3-6

1. The underlying problem stated plainly

Moses minced no words when he announced plainly that the underlying problem behind the many plagues that fell upon Egypt was essentially Pharaoh’s fault! His problem was clear for all to see.

“How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me?”
EXODUS 10:3

Pharaoh “refused” to humble himself before God! Imagine the height of his arrogance to deny the demand of God Almighty after having seen His power demonstrated through the plagues!

2. Truly Divine Signs

Did Pharaoh think that all the sign-miracles were perhaps the quirky behaviour of natural forces? The plagues were not natural phenomena that could be explained away by science! These were obvious signs that God had especially created to communicate a message that Pharaoh must not continue to ignore – at his own peril!

THE THREAT OF LOCUSTS

Farmers fear a number of things. Unpredictable weather like hailstorms would cause the bravest of farmers to be worried. The threat of locusts would cause anyone to break into a cold sweat! This was the next plague announced! Would Pharaoh listen now?
