Ephesians
Day
Day 333

"Therefore take up the whole armour of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand."

Text: Ephesians 6:13

THE ARMOUR OF MAN

When David offered to give battle to Goliath, king Saul offered him his own suit of armour.

So Saul clothed David with his armour,
and he put a bronze helmet on his head;
he also clothed him with a coat of mail.
1 SAMUEL 17:38

Saul meant well. By offering David his personal suit of armour, he sought to honour him. David tried out this suit given to him.

David fastened his sword to his armour and tried to walk,
for he had not tested them.
And David said to Saul, ‘I cannot walk with these,
for I have not tested them.’ So David took them off.
1 SAMUEL 17:39

The battle against Goliath was not going to be a battle involving physical armory. David was going to go into battle, clad with another kind of armour.

THE ARMOUR OF GOD

David was conscious that there was both a physical and spiritual battle that must be fought and won that day.

1. The physical battle

For this physical battle, David chose the weapons he could handle best.

Then he took his staff in his hand;
and he chose for himself five smooth stones
from the brook, and put them in a shepherd’s bag,
in a pouch which he had, and his sling was in his hand.
And he drew near to the Philistine.
1 SAMUEL 17:40

2. The spiritual battle

As David drew near to Goliath, he gave intimation as to how he was going to wage this battle.

This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand…
Then all this assembly shall know that the LORD does not save
with sword and spear, for the battle is the LORD’S,
and He will give you into our hands.
1 SAMUEL 17:46-47

This is a great truth that we must bear in mind always. Our battle cry must be this, “The battle is the LORD’S”! It is this kind of faith that will help us conquer all enemies.
