"His delight is in the fear of the LORD..."

Text: Isaiah 11:3

THE SPIRIT-FILLED LIFE AND MINISTRY

What does it mean to be truly Spirit-filled, as the Messiah, the Lord Jesus was? The following text gives us a glimpse of the life and ministry of the Lord Jesus.

“His delight is in the fear of the LORD,
And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes,
Nor decide by the hearing of His ears;

But with righteousness He shall judge the poor,
And decide with equity for the meek of the earth;

Righteousness shall be the belt of His loins,
And faithfulness the belt of His waist.”
Isaiah 11:3-4a, 5

1. “The fear of the LORD”

a) This was taught as a basic requirement.

“And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you,
but to fear the LORD your God…”
Deuteronomy 10:12a

b) The fear of the Lord was not present in Israel.

“‘Do you not fear Me?’ says the LORD.
‘Will you not tremble at My presence…'”
Jeremiah 5:22

2. “His delight is in the fear of the LORD”

a) Jesus delighted to be in the Presence of God.
b) No one could spend 40 days and 40 nights in God’s presence if he did not take delight in Him!

3. The public ministry of the Lord Jesus

a) He did not depend on His personal knowledge and wisdom.
b) He did not depend on what He saw and heard.
c) What did Jesus fall back on?
i) The fear of the Lord.
ii) The fullness of the Spirit of God in His life.
iii) Righteousness and faithfulness would be His belt.

OUR CHALLENGE

It is important for us to examine our heart, our life and our ministry, with reference to the Spirit of God.

1. How well do we know and understand the Person and ministry of God in our life personally?

2. How much are we filled with the Spirit of God in life and ministry?
