A PERSONAL LETTER
Second John is essentially a personal letter that the Apostle John wrote. This letter reflects much about the author.
1. He was Personal.
a) He took time to write a personal letter to a church member.
b) This stood out even more when we realise that John was already advanced in age.
2. He was Faithful
a) To the Lord.
b) To the word of God.
c) To the ministry that he was given.
3. He was wise and discerning.
a) This becomes obvious when we read the advice given.
b) He continued to be very sharp.
MANY SPIRITUAL LESSONS
Many deep and spiritual lessons may be learned from 2 John.
1. Prayerful reading
a) As always we must read the Scriptures prayerfully.
b) The Lord can speak to our hearts deeply when we are sensitive to Him.
2. Practical advice
a) As always John offers practical advice.
b) We would do well to give heed to the admonition we will find as we read 2 John.
