"They glorify God..."

Text: 2 Corinthians 9:13

THE JOY OF THE RECIPIENTS

Paul could not help but record the joy that the recipients felt as they received the much-needed support for their livelihood!

“While, through the proof of this ministry,
they glorify God for the obedience of your confession
to the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal sharing
with them and all men,
and by their prayer for you, who long for you
because of the exceeding grace of God in you.
Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!”
2 Corinthians 9:13-15

1. “Through the proof of this ministry”

a) Giving is truly proof of real faith and ministry.
b) Giving is never to be thought of in terms of dollars and cents!

2. “They”

a) The recipients were likely the believers in the Jerusalem Church.
b) Of course, there were other recipients.

3. “They glorify God”

a) “For the obedience of your confession to the gospel of Christ”
i) It was hard for the Jews to believe that Gentiles could come to share the same faith.
ii) But the charitable spirit of the Corinthians was convincing proof.
iii) True believers of the gospel of Christ will demonstrate their faith in doing charitable deeds.
b) “And for your liberal sharing with them and all men”
i) The liberal way in which the Corinthians gave touched many hearts in the churches in Jerusalem who were beneficiaries.
ii) There were other beneficiaries (those who were affected and who had become impoverished).
c) “By their prayer for you”
i) Naturally, prayers of thanks were offered to the Lord.
ii) The Corinthians were prayed for.
d) “Who long for you because of the exceeding grace of God in you”
i) It was natural to long to see the kind and generous Corinthians.
ii) They could see the exceeding grace of God operating in their lives!

4. “Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift”

The greatest gift is the Lord Jesus Christ! God gave His own Son to redeem us! An indescribable gift indeed!
