"Abounding through many thanksgivings to God..."

Text: 2 Corinthians 9:12

GIVING THANKS TO GOD

Paul was right when he urged Titus to teach the Corinthians how to understand and practise giving as the Macedonian brethren. One of the reasons was stated in the following text.

“For the administration of this service not only
supplies the needs of the saints, but also is
abounding through many thanksgivings to God.”
2 Corinthians 9:12

1. The administration of this service

a) Paul made sure that all gifts are carefully administered.
b) A few reputable people were placed in charge of the administration of the gifts.
c) He also made sure that he would write about how the gifts were utilised.
d) The word “administration” is derived from the word “deacon”.
e) The word “service” was used by Paul when he wrote that the giving of ourselves to God was but our reasonable service (Romans 12:1).

2. “Not only supplies the needs of the saints”

a) The saints
i) Fellow-believers
ii) All believers are sanctified by the Lord’s redemption.
b) The needs
i) Some saints were in poverty.
ii) They were in want.
c) Supplies
i) The generous gifts of the Corinthians would go a long way to meet these needs.
ii) These gifts would support the saints in a very definite way.

3. “But also”

a) Another wonderful blessing was received.
b) It resulted from these generous gifts that were administered.

4. “Abounding through many thanksgivings to God”

a) Many hearts were blessed.
b) Many lives were touched.
c) Many gave thanks to God.
d) The Lord had heard their cries for help.

The Corinthians were the special channels of blessing!
