1 Thessalonians

1 Thessalonians
Day 51

"The times and the seasons..."

Text: 1 Thessalonians 5:1

The apostle Paul went on to write about other issues related to the Second Coming of Christ.

“But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren,
you have no need that I should write to you.
For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord
so comes as a thief in the night.”

1 Thessalonians 5:1-2

a) The Thessalonians had been well-taught on this topic.
b) There was no need to write on a subject that everyone knew about.

3. “You yourselves know perfectly”

a) The word “perfectly” suggests “clear and accurate knowledge”.
b) The word “know” strengthens this idea; there was fullness of understanding of this subject matter.

d) Some of the features include the following:-
i) It will be a day of the Lord’s anger (Zephaniah 2:2-3).
ii) It will be a day of darkness (Amos 5:18, 20).
iii) It will be a day where the haughtiness of man will be brought low and the Lord of hosts is exalted (Isaiah 2:17).
iv) It will be a day when the Messiah will establish His kingdom (Isaiah 11:10).

5. “So comes as a thief in the night”

a) Exactly when the Lord Jesus returns, it cannot be discerned.
b) This knowledge is hidden and determined by Divine counsel.
c) He will come when we least expect Him, “as a thief in the night”.
