"Comfort one another..."

Text: 1 Thessalonians 4:18

WHEN WE SUFFER BEREAVEMENT

Death is always a difficult experience to comprehend and cope with. Many people are greatly grieved and saddened when death takes place. For others death can be a traumatizing experience! What are some of the reasons for these feelings and thoughts to take place?

1. Death

a) It is feared because of the unknown.
b) It is dreaded because it tears apart relationships.
c) It brings great grief because of strong emotional relationships.

2. The answer that God offers

a) Faith in God
b) Hope of eternal life
c) Comfort through Christ

THE MINISTRY OF ENCOURAGEMENT

The apostle Paul wrote to encourage the Thessalonians to reach out to each other, especially to those who have suffered bereavement.

“Therefore comfort one another with these words.”

1 Thessalonians 4:18

1. “Therefore”

a) Our faith should cause us to have a strong and certain hope.
b) We have the basis to comfort those who are grieving.

2. “Comfort one another”

a) No matter how strong we are we need comfort in times of sorrow.
b) Comfort must be given to those who are hurting because of bereavement.

3. “With these words”

a) Words from the Lord Himself
b) Words of knowledge
c) Words of comfort
d) Words of love
e) Words of hope
f) Words of strength
