THE PROPHETIC SCRIPTURES

The Holy Scriptures have different features. One of them is the prophetic element.

“Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture,
‘Behold, I lay in Zion
A chief cornerstone, elect, precious,
And he who believes on Him
will by no means be put to shame.'”
1 Peter 2:6

1. “Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture”

a) The prophetic part is highlighted here.
b) Prophecy is part and parcel of “Scripture.”
c) This text was cited from Isaiah 28:16.

2. This was a prophecy that God gave to Isaiah

a) “Behold, I lay in Zion”
i) Zion could refer to Jerusalem (literally).
ii) It could refer to the heavenly Zion.
iii) It could refer to the spiritual building, the body of Christ, the Church.
b) “A chief cornerstone”
i) This is a reference to the Lord Jesus Christ.
ii) The entire Church is built upon the Lord.
iii) He is the Living Stone.
iv) He is also called the chief cornerstone.
c) He is also “elect and precious”
i) He was chosen (elect).
ii) He is precious to God.
iii) He is also precious to every believer.
d) “He who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame”
i) This is absolutely true.
ii) Our hope in Him will be steadfast.
iii) We have no reason to be ashamed of our faith and trust in the Lord.
