"Coming to Him as to a living stone"
Text: 1 Peter 2:4
COMING TO THE LORD JESUS CHRIST
We come to the Lord Jesus Christ for many reasons:
1. For forgiveness
2. For salvation
3. For instruction
4. For inspiration
And we can add many more reasons why we come to the Lord Jesus Christ. The Apostle Peter adds one more reason.
“Coming to Him as to a living stone,
rejected indeed by men,
but chosen by God and precious.”
1 Peter 2:4
1. “Coming to Him”
a) There must be a sense of eagerness.
b) There must be a definite reason why we come to the Lord Jesus.
2. “As to a living stone”
a) Peter introduces a new insight in this text.
b) Jesus is portrayed as “a living stone”.
i) Jesus was very much alive (living).
ii) That He is a stone would be explained in greater detail shortly.
3. “Rejected indeed by men”
a) Peter remembered how Jesus was rejected:
i) By the scribes
ii) The chief priests
iii) The Pharisees
iv) The Sadducees
b) This was a fact that he noted.
4. “But chosen by God and precious”
a) “Chosen by God”
i) Proven by the signs and wonders He performed.
ii) Proven by the Spirit of God who anointed Him.
iii) Proven by His resurrection from the dead.
b) “Precious”
i) To God.
ii) To all who truly believe in Jesus.
c) It did not matter if men were to reject.
As long as God is the One who accepts and blesses.
