"He who believes in the Son of God..."

Text: 1 John 5:10

IMPORTANT IMPLICATIONS TO BEAR IN MIND

The Apostle John carefully wrote about the significance of believing in the Lord Jesus Christ. There were important implications that must be borne in mind. The following text warrants careful perusal of its implications!

“He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself;
he who does not believe God has made Him a liar,
because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son.”
1 John 5:10

1. John noted two categories of people:

a) He who believes in the Son of God.
b) He who does not believe God.

2. “He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself”

a) John describes a person who continues to believe in Jesus as the Son of God.
b) This believer has a witness in himself.
i) The Spirit of God who lives within the believer will bear witness in his heart.
ii) There is deep conviction within the heart of the believer.

3. “He who does not believe God”

a) This individual does not believe in God.
b) Neither does he believe that Jesus is the Son of God.

4. Implications

a) He has made God a liar.
i) He may not have verbally stated this.
ii) But effectively he has challenged God’s testimony about Jesus as His beloved Son.
iii) This is a very serious implication.
b) Because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son.
i) The individual has never believed.
ii) He remains in the state of unbelief.
c) The testimony of God concerning His Son.
i) This has been rejected.
ii) This has deep implications which cannot be swept aside easily.
