"I received from the Lord..."

Text: 1 Corinthians 11:23

THE PROPER WAY

The Lord’s Supper has deep and profound significance. There must be no abuse of something so precious and sacred.

“For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you:
that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed
took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said,
‘Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you;
do this in remembrance of Me.’
In the same manner He also took the cup after supper,
saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in My blood.
This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.’
For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup,
you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.”
1 Corinthians 11:23-26

b) It also represented the “new testament” or “new covenant”.
c) The blood of Jesus had to be shed to seal the new covenant.

4. In remembrance of Me

a) The death of the Lord Jesus was not to be forgotten.
b) It was to be remembered again and again.
c) The keeping of the Lord’s Supper must be observed with great regard.

5. Proclamation of the Lord’s death

a) The partaking of the Lord’s Supper was virtually a message in itself.
b) The Lord’s death is proclaimed.
c) Thus, the Lord’s Supper was meant to be a sacred event.
