"God is faithful..."

Text: 1 Corinthians 1:9

AWESOME TRUTHS

Sometimes we take for granted what it means to belong to the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. We are not as conscious of Divine involvement as we should!

“God is faithful, by whom you were called into the
fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”
1 Corinthians 1:9

1. “God is faithful”

a) The faithfulness of God is a Divine attribute.
b) God’s faithfulness can be counted on.
c) The statement of God’s faithfulness was more than just a declaration here.

2. “By whom you were called”

a) God’s involvement was to call people to faith.
b) The calling of God may be appreciated in the following: –
i) Calling to Salvation
ii) Calling to Service
iii) Calling to special areas of ministry (e.g. Apostleship)
c) God has always been involved
i) Calling of Abraham Genesis 12
ii) Calling of Moses Exodus 2
iii) Calling of the prophets Isaiah 6; Jeremiah 1

3. “Into the fellowship of His Son”

a) The idea of “fellowship” is of great significance.
i) We are not just called to salvation.
ii) We enter into a dynamic relationship with His Son.
b) The Church is a dynamic community.
i) There is a living relationship with each other as fellow-believers.
ii) There is also a living fellowship that involves both Father and Son (1 John 1:3).

4. “Jesus Christ our Lord”

a) Paul had a decidedly strong focus and emphasis on the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ.
b) He is particularly and formally mentioned 9 times in 1 Corinthians 1:1-9!
