"That you may be blameless..."

Text: 1 Corinthians 1:8

THE WORK OF ESTABLISHING A CHURCH

The work of establishing a Church is fascinating and awesome. Many factors may be observed.

1. The work of the founders

a) These are the pioneers.
b) In the case of the Corinthian Church, it would be the Apostle Paul, Silas and Timothy.

2. The contribution of the founding members

a) These are the first set of believers.
b) Sosthenes would be counted as one of them.

3. Divine involvement must be acknowledged

a) The work of God the Father.
b) The work of the Lord Jesus Christ.
c) The work of the Holy Spirit.
d) This is truly profound.

THE CONTINUING WORK OF THE LORD

Paul certainly believed in Divine involvement. The following text bears this up.

“Who will also confirm you to the end, that you may
be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
1 Corinthians 1:8

1. “Who”

a) The direct reference would point to the Lord Jesus Christ.
b) He is the Foundation Stone.
c) He is also continually involved in the work of establishing the Church.

2. “Will also confirm you to the end”

a) The word “confirm” in this verse is the same one used in 1 Corinthians 1:6.
b) The establishing of a church involves the Lord Jesus Christ directly.
c) He will confirm the believers to the end.

3. “That you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ”

a) Once again there is a reference to the Second Coming of Christ.
b) His task is to present us “blameless” or “beyond reproach”.
c) This is an awesome truth to ponder over and rejoice in.
