FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH

Text: Psalm 84

HOLY PILGRIMAGES

It was the Lord who taught the children to plan to make pilgrimages to the Temple in Jerusalem. They were to make these special trips three times a year (Deuteronomy 1:1-17) to worship the Lord their God!

5 Blessed is the man whose strength is in You,

Whose heart is set on pilgrimage.

6 As they pass through the Valley of Baca,

They make it a spring;

The rain also covers it with pools.

7 They go from strength to strength;

Each one appears before God in Zion.     Psalm 84:5-7

  1. Three visits to Jerusalem each year

a) Passover/ Unleavened Bread

b) Pentecost

c) Tabernacles     Deuteronomy 16:16

  1. Some come from far away

a) But they are determined

b) They have strength of determination

c) They go from strength to strength

  1. The Valley of Baca

a) Baca means “tears”

b) Pilgrimages are not easy to undertake

c) But the strong ones persevere and succeed

d) They consider every pilgrimage to Zion a worthy enterprise

OUR CHALLENGE

  1. To find a genuine spirit of faith
  1. To build a strong and vibrant faith
  1. To love the Lord and His House with great steadfastness
