Revelation
"The time is at hand”
Text: Revelation 22:10
THE CLOSING STAGES OF TIME
Some think that life will perpetuate continually. The Scriptures inform us otherwise. The Return of the Lord Jesus will usher in a totally new era. Life as we have always known it will change dramatically!
“And he said to me,
‘Do not seal the words of the prophecy of this book,
for the time is at hand.
He who is unjust, let him be unjust still;
he who is filthy, let him be filthy still;
he who is righteous, let him be righteous still;
he who is holy, let him be holy still.'”
Revelation 22:10-11
1. The sealing of a book.
a) This can refer to a prophecy that will be fulfilled many years later
(Cf Daniel 8:26; 9:24).
b) The prophecy itself would be fulfilled in due time.
2. “Do not seal the words of the prophecy of this book”
a) The reason for not sealing it is clear.
b) It is stated “For the time is at hand”.
c) The Return of the Lord Jesus is closer than many believe.
3. Two groups of people mentioned:
a) The Unrepentant sinful people.
i) The unjust will remain unjust.
ii) The filthy will remain filthy.
iii) They will not respond and repent.
iv) The Lord will give them up to their wrong desires.
v) They will have to answer for their sinfulness to God.
vi) This is a sad stage of life.
b) The Righteous
i) The righteous must determine to walk in righteousness.
ii) The holy must also determine to walk in holiness.
iii) The course that one decides on must be pursued wholeheartedly.
