"Men were scorched with great heat"

Text: Revelation 16:9

THE FOURTH BOWL OF WRATH

The fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun. He was entrusted with power and punish sinful people with fire.

“Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun,
and power was given to him to scorch men with fire.
And men were scorched with great heat,
and they blasphemed the name of God
who has power over these plagues;
and they did not repent and give Him glory.”
Revelation 16:8-9

1. Angels of the Lord.

a) They have authority from the Lord.

b) They are also entrusted with power to carry out God’s command.

2. Power of fire.

a) The fourth angel was given the power of fire.

b) He was to use this power to punish the wicked.

3. The bowl of wrath poured on the sun.

a) The angel would have to fly over the sun to do this.

b) The angel chose the sun to carry out the divine order given to him.

c) The sun would serve as the instrument to scorch mankind with terrible heat.

4. Great heat.

a) The sun began to emit more heat than usual.

b) The wicked suffered greatly.

c) But there was no thought of repentance in any way.

d) They refused to acknowledge the power of God.

e) Such was their obstinacy.

5. Blaspheming God.

a) The wicked chose to blaspheme God.

b) They remained stubborn in their sinfulness.

c) They would never acknowledge the glory of the Lord.

d) Thus, they continued to suffer terribly.
