A DISCOURAGED GROUP OF DISCIPLES

John 21 carried a special story of how the Risen Saviour reached out to His very discouraged Disciples. We can understand their discouragement:

  1. They had shamefully abandoned the Lord
  1. Peter denied the Lord three times vehemently
  1. Their words of commitment to follow the Lord proved empty

A LOVING SAVIOUR REACHED OUT TO THEM

  1. He knew the behaviour of His Disciple
  1. He knew that they were going to return to their old fishing job
  1. He wanted to restore them fully

AT THE SEA OF GALILEE

  1. The Disciples had gone back to fishing
  1. But they had caught nothing
  1. The Lord called them to cast their net to the right side
  1. They then caught a great shoal of fish
  1. This was reminiscent of the time when the Lord called them to follow Him.    (Luke 5)

RECOGNITION OF THE LORD

  1. John immediately recognised that this was their Risen Teacher
  1. Peter jumped into the water and swam to the shore
  1. The other fishermen brought the boat back

REMEMBERING THE PAST

  1. The scene was so familiar
  1. The Lord Jesus having a meal with His Disciples in the past
  1. He was cooking for all of them seeking to restore them fully

OUR CHALLENGE

  1. Sometimes we are discouraged because we fail so many times
  1. The Lord wants to restore our relationship and fellowship with Him
  1. Let us recognise the need to return to the Lord and seek to be fully restored!
