"The sons of Zadok"

Text: Ezekiel 44:15

THE PRIVILEGE OF MINISTRY

The Levites who had failed to be faithful in their ministry in the past were assigned basic tasks at the Temple. The sons of Zadok were also categorised as Levitical priests were distinguished as special priests.

“‘But the priests, the Levites, the sons of Zadok,
who kept charge of My sanctuary
when the children of Israel went astray from Me,
they shall come near Me to minister to Me;
and they shall stand before Me
to offer to Me the fat and the blood,’ says the Lord God.
‘They shall enter My sanctuary,
and they shall come near My table to minister to Me,
and they shall keep My charge.'”
Ezekiel 44:15-16

1. Identification of the sons of Zadok.

a) They were also from the line of Levi.

b) They came from a line of faithful Levitical priests.

c) Zadok was the priest who was most loyal to King David and to his son, King Solomon.

2. Their past record.

a) They kept faithful charge of the sanctuary.

b) They remained true when the children of Israel went astray.

c) Their faithfulness was noted and honoured by the Lord.

d) The Lord carefully noted the deeds of:

i) The Levites.

ii) The sons of Zadok.

e) He judged between these sons of Levite.

3. Privileges accorded to the sons of Zadok

a) They would be allowed to draw near to the Lord to minister.

b) They will stand before the Lord to offer the fat and the blood (burnt offering).

c) They will be allowed to enter into the Sanctuary (the inner court).

d) They will be able to come near to the Lord at the Incense table.

e) They will be entrusted with keeping charge of the Sanctuary of the Lord.
