"Whenever they enter the gates of the inner court"

Text: Ezekiel 44:17

THE CLOTHING OF THE ZADOK PRIESTS

The Lord determined that those who serve Him as priests should always be properly attired. Their priestly garments were to be distinguished from their personal clothing.

“And it shall be,
whenever they enter the gates of the inner court,
that they shall put on linen garments;
no wool shall come upon them while they minister
within the gates of the inner court or within the house.
They shall have linen turbans on their heads
and linen trousers on their bodies;
they shall not clothe themselves
with anything that causes sweat.
When they go out to the outer court,
to the outer court to the people,
they shall take off their garments in which they have ministered,
leave them in the holy chambers, and put on other garments;
and in their holy garments they shall not sanctify the people.”
Ezekiel 44:17-19

1. Entering the gates of the Inner Court.

a) They were to be properly attired.

b) They did not dress to please the public for worshippers were not allowed to be in the inner court.

2. Only Linen garments.

a) That would mean that they would wear white.

b) Wool would not be used for it would cause perspiration.

3. Other priestly garments.

a) Linen turbans.

b) Linen trousers.

c) No garments that would cause perspiration.

These were strict rules that the Zadok priests must adhere to.

4. The Outer Court.

a) The priestly garments were not to be worn in the Outer Court.

b) These garments were to be left in the holy chambers.

c) They were to use their own personal garments.

5. To avoid possible abuse.

a) Some may think that the priestly garments had special sanctifying power.

b) The priests were not allowed to wear priestly garments once they leave the Inner Court.
