MEDITATION
Genesis 31:22-24
22 And Laban was told on the third day that Jacob had fled6
23 Then he took his brethren with him and pursued him for seven days’ journey, and he overtook him in the mountains of Gilead.
24 But God had come to Laban the Syrian in a dream by night, and said to him, “Be careful that you speak to Jacob neither good nor bad.”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Learning about the escape of Jacob and his family
a. Laban had been busy with sheep-shearing.
b. It wasn’t till the third day that he learned of Jacob’s escape.
2. The pursuit of Jacob
a. Laban gathered his “brethren”.
b. The following would be included:
i. Laban
ii. His sons
iii. Members of the family
iv. Close friends
3. A seven-day pursuit
a. Laban was relentless.
b. He was not prepared to let Jacob go.
c. His “source” of wealth would disappear.
4. In the mountains of Gilead
Laban was very near to where Jacob was camped. It would have been difficult for Jacob to travel swiftly because of the large flocks he possessed.
5. God’s warning to Laban
a. God appeared to Laban to give him a stern word of warning.
b. Laban needs to watch what he would say to Jacob. God would be there watching.
