Text: Genesis 27: 30-31
MEDITATION
Genesis 27:30-31
30 Now it happened, as soon as Isaac had finished blessing Jacob, and Jacob had scarcely gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.
31 He also had made savoury food, and brought it to his father, and said to his father, “Let my father arise and eat of his son’s game, that your soul may bless me.”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Jacob’s exit from Isaac’s tent
a. Jacob had obtained what he desired from his father.
b. He had been given his father’s blessing of the firstborn.
c. That would mean that he would be the head of the family after the death of Isaac.
d. He did not linger but made a swift exit.
e. He knew that his brother would see his father soon.
2. Esau’s entrance into Isaac’s tent
a. Esau had a successful hunting trip.
b. He had killed fresh game.
c. He had also prepared the savoury dish that his father had always enjoyed.
d. It was his delight to prepare his father’s favourite dish.
3. Esau’s greeting of his father
a. Humbly and politely he invited his father to partake of the special dish.
b. And after he had feasted, he requested to be given the first-born blessing.
c. Esau had borne in mind what his father had said to him:
i. To hunt for fresh game.
ii. To prepare his favourite savoury dish.
iii. To receive the special blessing that would be given.
