THE GRACE OF GOD THAT BRINGS SALVATION

As I reflect on this coming Easter, I rejoice in the fact that we have a risen Saviour. He is our God and Redeemer who resurrected from the dead to give eternal life to us and to all who would believe in Him. This is nothing less than the grace of God manifested to us.

“For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that”
Titus 2:11-12

God’s grace that brings salvation in Christ is meant for us to deeply appreciate. Salvation is a great privilege that came at a great cost. When we stand in awe of this matchless grace of God that brings salvation, it would actually train us. The word “teaching” in the Greek means to “train a person to make the right choice”. The grace of God shown by Christ at Easter is meant to continually teach and guide us to live in a certain way. It will train us in the following ways:

1. To Live A Sanctified Life

“Denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly and righteously, and godly in the present age”
Titus 2:12

Paul exhorted Titus that they should live their lives in a sanctified manner. They were to choose to say “No” to all things that were ungodly. They were meant to set aside earthly lust. Their challenge was to live their lives in righteousness. Instead of being caught up with drinking and gluttony, there should be self-control and temperance in all that they did. If we truly appreciate the grace of God extended to us, we would choose to be different and distinct from this wretched sinful world.

2. To Look Forward To The Lord’s Second Coming

“Looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ”
Titus 2:13

The reality of the grace of God given to us in salvation would also train us to have a deep sense of hope in the Lord’s second coming. We would long for the day when the Lord Jesus comes for us and we would be taken up to be with Him in the rapture. There would be this great anticipation for the glorious appearance of our Lord and Saviour. With this blessed hope, there is not a day that should go by without us thinking or yearning for the Lord to return.

3. To Learn To Be God’s Special People

“And purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.”
Titus 2:14

The child of God who is saved by grace would also seek to be part of the family of God. He would understand how the Lord Jesus has redeemed him and is cleansing him that he may be part of His own special people. We are meant to be His distinct people. On a collective effort, we would be most keen to do the work for the Lord. Young people, let’s seek to be zealous for good works. Easter is a great time to ask our friends to come for the Easter concerts and Easter worship/lunch at the Shangri-La. Let’s seek to be God’s special people as we reach out to those who would be coming. Let’s not lose our zeal in serving Him.
