Focusing On The Lord Jesus At Easter Time

In the race of life, sometimes we become weary and discouraged. This happens when we go through moments when the “going gets tough.” It is good for us to take some time to reflect and refocus on the Lord Jesus, especially during this Easter time.

“Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith”
Hebrews 12:2

As we run the race that is set before us, let’s seek to focus on the Lord Jesus Christ. The word “looking” in the Greek means “to look away from other things and to fix on one thing.” We are to look away from sin and distractions and to focus only on the Lord Jesus. He is the originator and perfector of our faith. The Lord Jesus has begun a good work in us and He will complete it. He is at the finish line of this race of life waiting for us. Let’s focus on Him as we press on.

The Example Of Jesus In Overcoming Sufferings

“Who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Hebrews 12:2

  1. Setting His Mind On Future Rewards
  2. Joy

The Lord Jesus was focused on the joy that He would have after He had finished what God had sent Him to do. There would be great joy in being the captain of our salvation (Hebrews 2:10), in bringing many sons to glory (Hebrews 2:10) and in destroying Satan and the power of death (Hebrews 2:14-15). The Lord was able to see and to set His mind on the future rewards that would come.

1. Exaltation

He also saw how after His ascension to heaven, He would be placed at the right hand of the throne of God. He would be once again be with His Father and He would take His place as the great High Priest.

Can we also set out minds on the future rewards that the Lord would give us one day?

2. Enduring To The End

The Lord Jesus endured the great pain of dying on the cross. Dying on the cross was one of the worst ways of being executed during the Roman Empire. The Lord Jesus thought little of the shame that He would have to go through. He endured much for our sake. Let’s also follow His example in enduring life’s challenges, even if it means suffering for Him.
