THE DAY OF THE LORD

As A Thief In The Night

The Lord’s judgment on the world will come at a time when we least expect it.

“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night”
2 Peter 3:10

Nobody knows when the day of the Lord will come. Even the angels in heaven do not know when this most significant yet terrifying day will be. Our Lord Jesus will come as a stealthy thief in the night. Young people, are we ready for the day of the Lord?

The Heavens Will Pass Away

“In which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.”
2 Peter 3:10

The second coming of Christ does not just refer to the rapture of the Church. It includes a series of events that will definitely happen. One of them is the destruction of the present universe and earth. This event will happen most swiftly. One day, the earth, the stars and the planets of the universe as we know it will be no more. They will melt away. How awesome!

Appropriate Responses To The Day Of The Lord

“Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?”
2 Peter 3:11-12

How should we appropriately respond to the coming day of the Lord? This rhetorical question causes us to consider two things.

1. To Live Our Life In A Godly Manner

Our challenge ought to be to live our life in a manner that is worthy of the Lord. We should seek to live a qualitative life of probity and holiness. The Lord’s coming is more than a good enough reason to do this. We ought to live our lives with His coming in mind. Let’s consider what it means to be partakers of the divine nature.

2. To Look Forward To The Coming Day Of The Lord

Another challenge is for us to look forward to the coming day of the Lord. The whole universe will go up in flames one day. There will be new heavens and a new earth. There will be the eternal state where we will be with the Lord forever. We do not need to fear the day as born again Christians. Let’s look forward with faith in His promises and fervently wait for the Lord’s glorious coming.
