Faith To Anticipate His Coming

Are we looking forward to the Lord’s second coming? Peter challenged the early Christian brethren to look forward to the things associated with His coming.

“Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things”
2 Peter 3:14

What are some of these things? There will be the glorious meeting in the sky with the Lord Jesus. We will be raptured and most wonderfully, we will see our beloved Lord face to face. What a glorious moment that will be! Furthermore, there will also be the dissolving of the whole universe and the creation of a new heaven and a new earth. We will also be with the Lord in this new eternal state. Truly, these are exciting things to look forward to. Let’s exercise greater faith in the Lord’s coming.

The Challenge To Continue To Be Steadfast In Faith

As we look forward to the Lord’s coming, we must seek to continue to be steadfast.

1. Having The Faith To Be Diligent Till The Lord Comes

“Be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless”
2 Peter 3:14

Peter challenged the brethren to be diligent in cultivating their faith and life so that when Christ comes, they would not be found wanting. The Lord would be pleased that they have continued in His ways. They would have lives that are blameless and holy before Him. We too need to be diligent with reference to our walk with God.

2. Having The Faith To Be On The Guard

“You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away by the error of the wicked”
2 Peter 3:17

One problem that the early Christians faced was the propagation of erroneous teachings. People did not continue steadfastly in faith because of the heresy of these mendacious false teachers. The challenge was for the Christians to be on guard at all times. We too must ensure that we do not end up losing our steadfastness.

3. Having The Faith To Keep Growing Spiritually

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.”
2 Peter 3:18

The need of the hour in these last days is for Christians to grow in faith. We must take definite steps to grow in the grace of the Lord Jesus. We are to depend so much more on the grace of God. We also need to grow in our knowledge of the Lord. Let’s never stop learning and growing in our understanding of the Lord and His word.
