The Response of Moses

THE RESPONSE OF MOSES

1. He fell on his face   (Numbers 16:4)

a) Humility
b) Sorrow

2. He did not retaliate

a) He did not show anger
b) He did not show resentment

3. But this response in itself was inadequate

a) The problem was still there
b) The challenges must be answered
c) The issue of leadership was a critical one
i) For the moment
ii) For the future

4. He spoke to Korah and all his companions   (Numbers 16:5)

a) Unstated
i) To understand the situation
ii) To nip the problem in the bud
iii) This approach did not work out
b) Stated   (Numbers 16)
i) Bringing in the Lord
ii) Invoking His name
iii) The LORD Himself will indicate whom He had appointed
iv) The Lord will show who is His
v) And who is holy
vi) And will cause him to come near to Him
vii) That one whom He chooses He will cause to come near to Him

5. The challenge   (Numbers 16:6-7)

a) Korah and company are to take censers
b) Fire was to be put in the censers
c) Incense was to be out in the censers
d) The LORD Himself will show whom He has called

6. Counter charge by Moses   (Numbers 16:7-11)

a) “You take too much upon yourselves, you sons of Levi”
b) “Is it a small thing to you that the God Israel has separated you from the congregation of Israel”
c) To bring you near to Himself
d) To do the work of the tabernacle of the LORD
e) And to stand before the congregation to serve them
f) And are you seeking the priesthood also?
g) You and all your company are gathered against the LORD
h) What is Aaron that you complain against him?
