BALAK TO BALAAM
1. Balaam has arrived in Moab
2. Balak greets Balaam (Numbers 22:36)
EXCHANGE OF GREETINGS BETWEEN BALAK AND BALAAM
1. Balak
a) Did I not earnestly send to you, calling for you?
b) Why did you not come to me?
c) Am I not able to honour you?
(Numbers 22:37)
2. Balaam
a) Look! I have come to you
b) Have I power to say anything?
c) The word that God puts in my mouth, that I must speak
(Numbers 22:38)
OFFERING OF A SACRIFICE
1. Balak offered oxen and sheep
2. He sent some of these
a) Balaam
b) The princes who were with him (Numbers 22:40)
THE NEXT DAY
1. Balaam took Balak and brought him up to the high places of Baal
2. That he might observe the extent of the people (Israel) (Numbers 22:41)
3. Balaam to Balak
a) Build seven altars
b) Seven bulls
c) Seven rams
4. Offerings
a) Bull and ram on each altar
b) To approach God
c) To appease God
5. Balak was to stand by the offerings
6. Balaam hopes that the LORD would come to him
GOD’S WORD TO BALAAM
1. Balak had asked Balaam to curse Israel (Numbers 23:7)
2. How shall I curse whom God has not cursed
How shall I denounce whom God has not denounced?
(Numbers 23:8)
3. Israel will be blessed bountifully (Numbers 23:9-10)
BALAK REMONSTRATES WITH BALAK
1. What have you done to me?
2. I took you to curse my enemies, and look, you have blessed them bountifully
BALAAM REPLIES
Must I not take heed to speak what the LORD has put in my mouth?
