REASONS FOR SEEKING THE LORD

What are your reasons for seeking the Lord? The Psalmist David wrote candidly about some of the reasons why he sought the Lord (Cf. Psalm 63).

  1. Because of the desperate needs of the soul

a) His soul longed for the Lord

b) There was a deep sense of thirst for God

c) There was no one else he could turn to except the Lord!     Psalm 63:1

  1. Because there was lovingkindness with God

a) God’s lovingkindness was better than life     Psalm 63:3

b) He knew that only God could truly and fully satisfy     Psalm 63:5

  1. Because God had proven Himself to be able to help

a) God had been his protection

b) Under the shadow of His wings He had been protected     Psalm 63:7

  1. Because of difficult problems faced

a) There were enemies

b) They were deadly and they had sought to kill     Psalm 63:9-10

AN EXAMPLE OF HOW TO SEEK GOD

David knew he needed God’s help! Thus, he sought the Lord with all his heart!

  1. Early will I seek You     Psalm 63:1

a) There was no delay

b) There was a sense of urgency

c) There was a great sense of need

d) There was almost a sense of desperation

  1. I have looked for You     Psalm 63;2

a) David sought the Lord everywhere

i)   In a dry and thirsty land

ii)  In the sanctuary

iii) He sought till he found the Lord

b) And having found the Lord

i)   He followed the Lord closely Psalm 63:8

ii)  He had a new-found appreciation of the Lord’s right hand upholding him     Psalm 63:8

OUR CHALLENGE

Let us learn from the example of King David. He had learned many hard lessons along the way to becoming a king of Israel. Some lessons were learned painfully because of the many foolish mistakes and sins committed! But he did learn how to seek the Lord and to plead with Him to teach and to guide him in life!
