HOW AWESOME ARE YOUR WORKS!

Text: Psalm 66

AN INSPIRED REFLECTION

A number of the Psalms were written to extol the LORD God for His wondrous works. Psalm 66 is one of those Psalms.

  1. Inspiration

a) There is no question about the fact that the Psalmist wrote as one who was inspired

b) The inspiration came from his meditation on the works of the Lord

c) The inspiration also came from his personal faith-relationship with God

  1. Instruction

a) The Psalmist wrote to share the many lessons he had learned

b) These lessons were not lost on him

c) They obviously affected his faith and his life

THE WORKS OF GOD

What are these works of God? The Psalmist noted two areas:-

  1. The Historical Works of God

a) These were carefully captured in the Holy Scriptures

b) Especially remembered: –

i)  The crossing of the Red Sea Psalm 66:6a

ii) The crossing of the River Jordan Psalm 66:6b

  1. Experiences with God

a) As His people

i)  God’s preservation Palm 66:9

ii) God’s chastening Psalm 66:10-12

iii) God’s blessings after chastening Psalm 66:12c

b) Personal experience

i)  What the Lord had done for the soul of the Psalmist      Psalm 66:16

ii) He had answered the prayers of the Psalmist      Psalm 66:19-20

APPROPRIATE RESPONSE

The Psalmist offered appropriate responses:-

  1. Deep appreciation to God
  1. Grateful worship
  1. A significant offering
  1. Extolling of the Lord

Let us be challenged to take time to ponder and meditate on the awesome works of God too. May our hearts be greatly lifted up in praise and adoration!
