"Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls"

Text: Zechariah 2:4

THE WORD TO THE TEACHING ANGEL

The teaching angel of Zechariah went out to meet the angel who would give him a special message.

“And another angel was coming out to meet him,
who said to him, ‘Run, speak to this young man, saying:
‘Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls,
because of the multitude of men and livestock in it.””
Zechariah 2:3b-4

1. “Another angel”

a) This was a higher-ranking angel obviously.
b) The moment the teaching angel saw him, he left Zechariah’s side.
i) He went out to greet the higher-ranking angel.
ii) He was a subordinate who was doing his part in greeting someone superior.

2. The authority of the angel who spoke to the teaching angel

a) He was able to give an authoritative word of command to the teaching angel.
i) “Run”
ii) “Speak”
Both words were spoken with imperatival force.
b) He was able to disclose information that the teaching angel had not known.
c) This was a prophetic word that was meant to be communicated to Zechariah who was called, “this young man”.

3. “Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls, because of the multitude of men and livestock in it”

a) This was an amazing revelation.
b) Jerusalem would become a bustling city that would spread out beyond the structured city limits.
c) This was a thrilling piece of information that would uplift all who lived in the city.
