"It is decreed"
Text: Nahum 2:7
DIVINE DECREES
The decrees of God are to be appreciated carefully. It is good to understand the significance of the divine decrees of the Lord.
“It is decreed:
She shall be led away captive,
She shall be brought up;
And her maidservants shall lead her
as with the voice of doves,
Beating their breasts.”
Nahum 2:7
1. “It is decreed”
a) This is a divine decree.
b) It comes from the Lord God.
i) It is profound.
ii) It will be backed by the power of God.
iii) It cannot be violated.
iv) It cannot be overturned by any human power.
v) It will be fulfilled in due time.
2. The contents of the decree
a) Nineveh will be led away captive.
b) It would be delivered up to the captors.
i) The Assyrians had been the captors.
ii) They will now be the captives.
c) The Babylonians
i) God will raise them up.
ii) They will defeat the Assyrians.
d) The maidservants
i) The Assyrians made many their slaves.
ii) Many maid-servants served Assyrian masters and mistresses.
e) They will now do one more thing for their erstwhile mistresses.
i) They will lead them with a sense of sadness.
ii) They are compared to chattering and frightened doves.
They will be beating their breasts in sorrow and with feelings of fear and confusion.
