MEDITATION
Genesis 14:1-4
1 And it came to pass in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of nations,
2 that they made war with Bera king of Sodom, Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar).
3 All these joined together in the Valley of Siddim (that is, the Salt Sea..
4 Twelve years they served Chedorlaomer, and in the thirteenth year they rebelled.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. War in the ancient days
a. Nations went to war against each other in the days of Abram.
b. Two groups were noted:
i. The first group was made up of four kings (Genesis 14:1).
ii. The second group was made up of five kings (Genesis 14:2).
2. The conquered nations
a. In war there would always be a victor.
b. The defeated nations were often given a choice:
i. To submit and pay tribute to the conquerors.
ii. To be destroyed by the stronger nations.
c. Sodom belonged to the second group of nations that were defeated.
3. Chedorlaomer
a. He seemed to be the high king of the group of four nations that had won the war.
b. They second group were made to pay tribute. They paid their dues for 12 years.
