"The LORD will be a light to me"

Text: Micah 7:8

A DEEP SENSE OF ASSURANCE

Micah was certain that his faith in God would not be in vain. His trust in God is inspiring.

“Do not rejoice over me, my enemy;
When I fall, I will arise;
When I sit in darkness,
The LORD will be a light to me.”
Micah 7:8

1. “Do not rejoice over me, my enemy”

a) The enemies
i) Foreign marauders.
ii) Local people who resent his ministry as a prophet of God.
iii) They would rejoice at the plight of those they were afflicting.
b) Micah’s word to them
i) They will not have the last laugh.
ii) The present suffering was not the end of the road.

2. “When I fall, I will arise”

a) “When I fall”
i) There may be times when one falters, fails and fall down.
ii) There are many lessons to be learned from such experiences.
b) “I will arise”
i) Many do not believe that there is a hope for a better future.
ii) Micah was confident that God can make a person rise up.

3. “When I sit in darkness”

a) There may be dark moments.
b) The darkness may be times of gloom.
c) The soul may even be bowed down to the dust.

4. “The LORD will be a light to me”

a) God Himself will be a light to brighten the darkness.
b) God is still there amidst the gloom of darkness.
c) God will give His word to function like a lamp to the feet (Psalm 119:105).

This declaration of faith was like a welcome light to all who felt the gloom of darkness!
