Day 43

"The LORD will reign over them in Mount Zion"

Text: Micah 4:7

THE REIGN OF THE LORD

That the LORD should reign over His people should have been an obvious thing, without His kingship being declared. But His reign was not appreciated and was in fact rejected. This was noted in 1 Samuel 8 where God’s conversation with Samuel was recorded (1 Samuel 8:4-8). Sadly, Israel had forgotten how the LORD had delivered them from Egypt and led them for many years in Israel.

The reign of the LORD would be openly declared and the people who would make up His kingdom would also be made known.

“‘In that day,’ says the LORD,
‘I will assemble the lame,
I will gather the outcast
And those whom I have afflicted;
I will make the lame a remnant,
And the outcast a strong nation;
So the LORD will reign over them in Mount Zion
From now on, even forever.”
Micah 4:6-7

1. God’s assembly of His subjects

a) The lame, the outcast, the afflicted.
b) These were often “the rejects” of so-called successful societies.
c) This was a profound declaration!

2. God’s announcement of what He would do with these weak subjects

a) God will make the lame a remnant.
i) He will preserve them when they are in exile.
ii) He will bring them back to Israel.
iii) He would bless them further.
b) And the outcast:
i) Who are these who are called “outcast”?
ii) They would not be among the rich and famous.
iii) They may not be among the most gifted.
iv) These may have been rejected by society as having little or no potential.
c) “And the outcast a strong nation”
i) But God would ensure that the outcast succeed.
ii) He will empower them and enable them to make the nation strong again.
d) “So the LORD will reign over them in Mount Zion from now on, even forever”
i) The LORD would not be ashamed of the subjects that He had chosen.
ii) He would reign over them as their king in Mount Zion forever and ever!
