"They do not return to the LORD their God"

Text: Hosea 7:10

RETURNING TO THE LORD

Returning to the LORD their God was always possible for Israel. Yet this choice was never exercised.

“And the pride of Israel testifies to his face,
But they do not return to the LORD their God,
Nor seek Him for all this.”
Hosea 7:10

1. “And the pride of Israel testifies to his face”

a) Pride is manifested in the following ways:
i) Arrogance
ii) Defiance
iii) Non-repentance
iv) Rejection
b) “Testifies to his face”
i) The above prideful acts will function as “testimonies”.
ii) Their sinful acts will testify against Israel to his very face.

2. “But they do not return to the LORD their God”

a) Israel could have returned to the LORD:
i) In humble repentance
ii) In regretful confession
iii) To seek forgiveness
iv) To seek cleansing
v) To seek restoration
b) But Israel did not return to the LORD.
i) It continued to remain in the state of ignorance.
ii) It continued to willfully defy the Lord and His messengers, the prophets.
iii) It continued to practise idolatry.
iv) It continued to oppress the poor and needy.
v) It continued to devour those who attempted to live righteously.

3. “Nor seek Him for all this”

a) Israel did not seek God at all.
b) The kingdom had all but completely turned apostate.
