Genesis
Day
Day 30

"Then the channels of the sea were seen, the foundations of the world were uncovered at Your rebuke, O Lord, at the blast of the breath of Your nostrils." Psalm 18:15

Text: Genesis 7:1-24

A UNIVERSAL FLOOD

What God had warned of finally came to pass. Bitter regret at that point of time would be useless! Solemnly, a statement of the universal flood was recorded. There was no joy in God’s heart when He had opened all the floodgates.

“In the sixth hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month,
the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains
of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of heaven
were opened. And the rain was on the earth forty days
and forty nights…
And the waters prevailed exceedingly on the earth, and all
the high hills under the whole heavens were covered…”

GENESIS 7:11-12, 19

What arrogant and unbelieving man thought was impossible had happened! The Word of God was fulfilled!

EFFECTS OF THE FLOOD

What were the effects of the Flood? Once again, we read with a great sense of solemnity the following text. These words need no explanation whatsoever!

“And all flesh died that moved on the earth: birds and cattle
and beasts and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth,
and every man. All in whose nostrils was the breath of
the spirit of life, all that was on the dry land, died.
So He destroyed all living things which were on the face
of the ground: both man and cattle, creeping thing
and bird of the air. They were destroyed from the earth.”

GENESIS 7:21-23

“BY FAITH WE UNDERSTAND”

We would need to employ our faith in God as we look at the devastation that took place on earth! How easy it is for an unbelieving and bitter heart to blame God for the destruction that took place! On the other hand, by faith we see how God could not but judge man for his folly in pursuing the path of wicked sin! Man had not only abandoned God, he had totally corrupted himself!

What about Noah? Where was he in the midst of the storms that raged upon the earth and the seas? What a contrast we have in the following text.

“Only Noah and those who were with him in the ark
remained alive.”

GENESIS 7:23f

God had not forgotten Noah. The Lord had protected and preserved him as He had promised! Only faith can appreciate this special act of grace shown to Noah!
