Day 329

"For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure with which the LORD was angry with you, to destroy you. But the LORD listened to me at that time also." Deuteronomy 9:19

Text: Exodus 34 : 5-8

A SPECIAL MANIFESTATION OF THE LORD

Moses had asked to see the face of the Lord! Though this request could not be fully met (for no mortal ever hope to see the fullness of God’s glory and live), nevertheless God would manifest Himself to him in a very special way!

“Now the LORD descended in the cloud and stood with him there,
and proclaimed the name of the LORD. And the LORD passed
before him and proclaimed,
‘The LORD, the LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering,
and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands
forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing
the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children
and the children’s children to the third and the
fourth generation.'”
EXODUS 34:5-7

1. The Proclamation of the Name of the LORD

This proclamation was made by the LORD Himself! It was made in close proximity to Moses! The LORD had descended from the high heavens to stand beside Moses! Words cannot fully describe the significance of this event, this manifestation!

2. A Series of glorious proclamations

a) “The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious”
b) “Longsuffering”
c) “Abounding in goodness and truth”
d) “Keeping mercy for thousands”
e) “Forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin”
f) “By no means clearing the guilty”
g) “Visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation”

None of these truths were “new” to Moses! Every proclamation only re-affirmed all that Moses had learned about the Lord! Wherein was the significance of this manifestation? Perhaps only Moses comprehended the significance of this manifestation! In awe, in gratitude and in deep humility, Moses prostrated himself before his God!

“So Moses made haste and bowed his head toward the earth,
and worshipped.”
