Ephesians

Ephesians
Day
Day 301

"Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband."

Text: Ephesians 5:33

PROFOUND LOVE

Paul’s understanding of love involved seeing it in the form of a concept. This concept was well described in the famous 1 Corinthians text.

Love suffers long and is kind;
Love does not envy;
Love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;
Does not behave rudely,
Does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil;
Does not rejoice in iniquity,
But rejoices in the truth;
Bears all things, believes all things,
Hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never fails…
1 CORINTHIANS 13:4-8

IN MODERN DAY LANGUAGE

Let’s see how the above may be translated into modern day language. Paul had a very lofty and profound concept of love, if the following is anything to go by.

1. Longsuffering or patient (1 Corinthians 13:4)

2. Kind and gracious (1 Corinthians 13:4)

3. Not consumed by jealous feelings (1 Corinthians 13:4)

4. Not given to bragging (“parade itself”) (1 Corinthians 13:4)

5. Not puffed up with self-importance (1 Corinthians 13:4)

6. Will always be tactful, never rude (1 Corinthians 13:5)

7. Not easily irritated, not touchy (1 Corinthians 13:5)

8. Does not register, store up evil thoughts (1 Corinthians 13:5)

9. Finds joy and delight in the truth (1 Corinthians 13:6)

10. Bears all things (1 Corinthians 13:7)

11. Endures all things (1 Corinthians 13:7)

12. Love will never fall flat on its face (1 Corinthians 13:8)
