"By the word of truth..."

Text: 2 Corinthians 6:7

THE MARKS OF A GOOD SERVANT OF GOD III

Paul described further the marks of a good servant of God. The variety is astonishing and humbling.

“By the word of truth, by the power of God,
by the armour of righteousness
on the right hand and on the left.”
2 Corinthians 6:7

1. “By the word of truth”

a) Truth is central.
b) All claims of “truth” need to be:
i) Examined thoroughly.
ii) Verified by the careful study of God’s word.
c) Truth needs to be fleshed out in real life.

2. “By the power of God”

a) God’s power will be made evident.
b) The following are demonstrations of God’s power at work:
i) The servant of God is enlightened.
ii) He is enabled and empowered.
iii) His work will be met by success.
c) The power of God
i) It will stand out.
ii) It will be manifested.

3. The full armour of God

a) Paul believed in spiritual warfare.
b) Six separate pieces of the panoply were carefully identified (Ephesians 6:14-18).
c) Each piece must be put on prayerfully.
d) The strength of the Lord must be sought and found for any spiritual battle to be won.

4. Another word of exhortation

a) In this text, Paul highlighted “the armour of righteousness”.
b) Understanding the expression, “on the right hand and on the left”.
i) The servant of the Lord must be conscious of the need to live righteously.
ii) The expression highlights the need to practise personal righteousness at times.
