On the Verge of Entering Canaan

ON THE VERGE OF ENTERING CANAAN

1. You are to cross over to Jordan today   (Deuteronomy 9:1)

2. Canaan   (Deuteronomy 9:1)

a) Nations mightier than yourself
b) Cities great and fortified up to heaven
c) People who are great and tall
d) Descendants of the Anakim

REMEMBERING THE LORD’S ROLE

1. The LORD your God goes before you   (Deuteronomy 9:2)

2. He is like a consuming fire

3. He will defeat the enemies

4. As the LORD had said   (Deuteronomy 9:3)

REMEMBERING IMPORTANT TRUTHS WHY ISRAEL WOULD INHERIT CANAAN

1. Not because of righteousness   (Deuteronomy 9:4-5)

2. But because of the wickedness of the Canaanites   (Deuteronomy 9:5)

3. Because of God’s promise to Abraham   (Deuteronomy 9:5)

REMEMBERING THE SINFUL PAST

1. Stiff-necked   (Deuteronomy 9:6)

2. Provoking God to wrath   (Deuteronomy 9:7-8)

To the point God threatened death

3. Rebellious   (Deuteronomy 9:7)

REMEMBERING THE TIME WHEN ISRAEL TURNED TO IDOLATRY

1. Moses on Mount Sinai for 40 days and nights   (Deuteronomy 9:8)

a) To be instructed
a) To receive the Covenant Tablets of Stone   (Deuteronomy 9:9-11)

2. Moses sent down from the mountain

a) Israel had worshipped a golden calf   (Deuteronomy 9:12-17)
b) Ministry of Moses in prayer
c) 40 days and nights   (Deuteronomy 9:18-21)

3. Rebellion at Kadesh Barnea

a) Refusal to enter Canaan   (Deuteronomy 9:22-24)
b) Another 40 days and nights in prayer   (Deuteronomy 9:25-29)

THE PRAYER OF MOSES

1. Do not destroy Your people and Your inheritance   (Deuteronomy 9:26)

2. They are redeemed people from Egypt   (Deuteronomy 9:27)

3. Remember Abraham, Isaac and Jacob   (Deuteronomy 9:27)

4. Do not look on: –   (Deuteronomy 9:27)

a) Their stubbornness
b) Their wickedness
c) Their sin

5. Concern for God’s good name   (Deuteronomy 9:28)

6. They are Your people and Your inheritance   (Deuteronomy 9:29)
