BEFORE I WAS AFFLICTED I WENT ASTRAY
The Psalmist was candid in his reflection;
He pondered much over his affliction.
He expressed his faith that God was good to him;
The Lord was not punishing him for his sins.
Nevertheless, he meditated earnestly;
He sought to understand better of necessity.
Through his affliction he realised he had gone astray;
Somehow, somewhere, he had lost the way.
It was with humility that he sought to understand his affliction;
The Lord’s goodness stood out to him in his meditation.
The Lord in His wisdom was drawing the Psalmist back;
But the path he was now on, did not make his heart glad.
Affliction was allowed by God to come to the Psalmist;
He must seek the Lord to check what was amiss.
Some sins and weakness are not easy to identify;
But wisdom will be revealed, as on the Lord we rely.
