(II) AN APPRECIATION OF WHO JESUS IS

1. Being in the brightness of His glory (Hebrews 1:3a)

a) The glory of the Lord

The terror of the LORD and the glory of His majesty (Isaiah 2:10, 19, 21)

b) Brightness of His glory

i) Glory as of the only begotten of the Father

ii) Full of grace and truth (John 1:14)

2. The express image of His person (Hebrews 1:3b)

a) The glorious fullness of God

b) Jesus- the express image of His person

c) The Kenosis text (Philippians 2:5-11)

i) In the form of God

ii) Equal with God

iii) Jesus is Lord

3. Upholding all things by the word of His power (Hebrews 1:3c)

a) Upholder of the world

b) Power to uphold

c) Word of His power

d) Jesus is that Word (John 1:1, 14)

4. When He had by Himself purged our sins (Hebrews 1:3d)

a) He came to take away our sins as the Lamb of God (John 1:29)

b) The purging of our sins

i) Christ at the right hand of God

i) Completed His work of redemption

ii) In His rightful place as the Anointed Son (Psalm 2; Daniel 7)
